"I do classes because it’s a great way to lose weight and have fun with my friends.”

Being more active has made a huge difference to Dola’s life. She’s gone from being on the edge of diabetes to living a healthy, active lifestyle. Now she sleeps better, has more energy and has lost weight too!

Being more active has made a huge difference to Dola’s life. She’s gone from being on the edge of diabetes to living a healthy, active lifestyle. Now she sleeps better, has more energy and has lost weight too!

She had been active in the past, going to the gym in spurts now and then but Dola often struggled to find the motivation to stick at it. It wasn’t until she discovered that she could end up diabetic that she was able to start being active and stay active.

Dola hates needles, which meant she was willing to do anything she could to avoid becoming diabetic. Once she started doing classes at her local gym, she never looked back – and the staff were so supportive and encouraging; they gave her the boost she needed in the sessions and the motivation to keep going.

Dola has now lost weight, improved her confidence and feels much happier in herself. She’s even got some stylish new clothes to suit her new, slimmer figure!

This newfound confidence really comes in handy for her, as the Minister’s wife. She used to feel nervous standing at the front of the congregation, often hiding herself under a scarf, but since she’s been more active and lost weight, she has enough confidence to stand proudly in front of anyone.

Dola’s advice:

“Starting to be more active can be hard, but if you try not to think about it too much and just go for it, that can make it easier. I first went to the gym when my husband and children were watching the football and ignoring me! I just went for a walk and ended up in the gym, so if you’re thinking about being more active, just get out there and give it a go! Being fit and healthy is the way forward, make it count, enjoy your life, you only live once.”
